Epitalon was synthesized in the late 1980s by Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. The research originated from investigations into epithalamin, a natural pineal gland extract shown to extend lifespan in animal models.
By identifying the key active peptide sequence within epithalamin, scientists isolated the short tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. This synthetic version allowed for precise research into longevity, cellular rejuvenation, and neuroendocrine system regulation.
Mechanism of Action
Epitalon functions primarily by stimulating the expression of telomerase, an enzyme responsible for preserving and extending telomere length at the ends of chromosomes.
